The Commission on Life Science - The Winners

The Commission on Life Science met on June 6, 2019 to decide the winning startup proposal for the sector.

The commission chose among ten finalists pre-selected by UniCredit Start Lab team. The Commission was composed of senior executives from leading Italian companies such as:

• Maurizio Colombo, Vice President, Gruppo Sapio

• Sergio Dompé, President and CEO, Dompé

• Marco Ferrari, CEO, Anemocyte

• Alessandro Gringeri, Chief Medical e R&D Office, Kedrion

• Emiliano Spagnolo, General Manager, Comecer         

• Giuseppe Vita, Honorary President, Axel Springer

The winning startup of the first prize for the Life Science sector is DEER TRACE TECHNOLOGIES which has developed an innovative technology able to perform an early diagnosis and predict the progression of Alzheimer's disease through the automatic and objective analysis of the subject's  brain. TRACE4AD uses Artificial-Intelligence and Cognitive-Computing technologies

The Commission awarded the second prize to OFTEN MEDICAL, which developed an optical fiber device that makes epidural anesthesia safer and more effective, designed to be immediately usable by anesthesiologists and compatible with the currently used standard epidural procedure

The third prize went to SCENT, which has developed a preventive screening tool for colorectal cancer using a device that analyzes faecal fumes with gas sensors in an economical, simple, reliable and non-invasive way

Finally, a special mention went to HEAXEL, which produces a certified plug-and-play robot to supporting rehabilitation professionals in intensive treatment for patients with neurological damage, and to PHARMERCURE, which offers an innovative home delivery service from drugs, even with a prescription, and any other product that can be purchased at the pharmacy.
