The Commission on Clean Tech & Industrial 2022 - The Winners

The Commission on Clean Tech met on June 8, 2022 to decide the winning startup proposal for the sector.

The commission chose among twelve finalists pre-selected by UniCredit Start Lab team. The Commission was composed of senior executives from leading Italian companies such as:

CLEAN TECH:

  • Antonio Biondi, Head of Enel Innovation Hub Italia, ENEL
  • Marco Cittadini, Global Head, Falck Renewables - Next Solutions
  • Giovanna Pozzi, Head of Renewables Development, Business Unit Hydrogen, SNAM
  • Gianfranco Sorasio, Founder & CEO, Eviso
  • Paolo Vanoni, Head of Corporate Strategy, Alperia
  •

INDUSTRIAL:

  • Andrea Cignoli, CEO, Techint Engineering & Construction
  • Giuseppe Dado, CFO, Fincantieri
  • Franco Iorio, CEO, C.P.C. Group
  • Renato Panesi, Founder & Chief Commercial Officer, D-Orbit
  • Marco Scagliarini, VP Divisione Energy & Mobility, GVS e Luca Querzé, Corporate Engineering, VP Science & Development, GVS
  • Franco Stefani, Chairman, System Ceramics

The winning startup of the first prize for the Clean Tech & Industrial sector is Nano Tech - based in Ascoli Piceno - which produces innovative composite materials and nanocomposites. Thanks to a patented technology and the know-how in the homogeneous and effective dispersion of nano particles within polymers, Nano-Tech has developed unique products, more robust, lighter, more heat resistant, with better electrical conductivity and able to reduce vibrations. They are used in the production of structural components for cars, airplanes and boats, in interior components in the transport sector and in the production of sports equipment and industrial machinery.

The winning startup will receive a 10.000 € grant.

The Commission awarded the second prize to Eye4Nir - from Lecco. The startup aims to unleash SWIR vision potential, thanks to its innovative technology. Their mission is to develop cost-effective VIS/SWIR (visible/short-wave infrared) dual-band image sensors by implementing novel technologies within the microelectronic industry. This will allow EYE4NIR to make SWIR vision an affordable technology, allowing a wide implementation of infrared vision in everyday life.

The third prize went to H2Energy - from Brescia -  an innovative SME specialized in the production of industrial electrolysers for the generation of green hydrogen, researching advanced production methods covering all technologies and the supply chain.

Finally, a special mention went to 2 startups based in Milan:  Lithium Laser - which has developed an innovative burst mode laser that can increase the machining speed by a factor of 10, while keeping high precision, and helps companies reducing the number of discarded parts and decreasing the production costs - and Energy Dome - which has developed CO2 Battery, a long duration energy storage technology that uses CO2 to fight climate change. By means of a closed thermodynamic process, they use CO2 to store electricity cost effectively with unprecedented round trip efficiencies and without emissions to the atmosphere.
