The Commission on Clean Tech - The Winners

The Commission on Clean Tech met on June 13, 2018 to decide the winning startup proposal for the sector.

The commission chose among eight finalists pre-selected by UniCredit Start Lab Team. The Commission was composed of senior executives from leading Italian companies such as:

•           Gaetano Lo Monaco, General Manager, Novamont

•           Jacopo Magrini, CEO, Graziella Green Power

•           Enrico Piraccini, Head Direzione Sviluppo, Gruppo Hera

•           Giovanna Pozzi, Investment Director, Tages

•           Johann Wohlfarter, General Manager, Alperia

After some debate, the winning Clean Tech startup proposal was TEST1,  a company that proposes the patent of the PU-FF sponge, a unique product in the world for the reclamation of environmental disasters in Oil & Gas and for any type of oil spill. PUFF is able to absorb any type of hydrocarbon for about 30 times its own weight and is reusable, through wringing, over 100 times allowing the recovery of intact hydrocarbons. 1 Kg of PUFF absorbs about 3 tons of hydrocarbons

The commission awarded second place to GLASS TO POWER, a company that realizes windows modules with transparent and colorless photovoltaic panels, which will produce about 50W/sqm and can be integrated without any aesthetic problem in the architecture of the buildings. The patented technology allows to reach the set goals of the EU Directive 2010/31/EU for new buildings that will have to be near zero energy consumption starting from 2020

Third place went to GR3N, a new depolymerization technology for some plastics, including PET and polyester, which closes the life cycle, just like today for aluminum and glass. The technology is based on a patented  microwave reactor as well as on a purification process enabling the treatment of high contaminated materials which cannot be processed with the current recycling technologies

Additionally, the commission decided to award a special mention to LABORATORI FABRICI  a company that is the first producer of smart natural air purifiers, that maximise the plant's natural fitoremediation ability to eliminate pollution indoors. Laboratori Fabrici's products are smart plant pots of design: made in italy, they feature a doublepot system with self-watering and advanced sensors that monitor air quality, humidity and temperature, and that share data in real time to a dedicated app via Wi-Fi
