The Commission on Life Science 2020 - The Winners

The Commission on Life Science met on June 22, 2020 to decide the winning startup proposal for the sector.

The commission chose among ten finalists pre-selected by UniCredit Start Lab team. The Commission was composed of senior executives from leading Italian companies such as:

  • Fabrizio Conicella, Direttore Generale OpenZone (Zambon Group)
  • Maurizio Colombo, Vice Presidente, Gruppo Sapio

  • Marco Ferrari, Amministratore Delegato, Anemocyte (Gruppo F.I.S.)

  • Filippo Mori, Open Innovation Lead, Kedrion

  • Luciano Ravera, CEO, IRCCS Istituto Clinico Humanitas

  • Marco Stevanato, Vice Presidente, Stevanato

  • Giuseppe Vita, Presidente Onorario, Axel Springer

  • Alessia Zanelli, Presidente, Comecer

The winning startup of the first prize for the Life Science sector is Delphinus Biotech - based in Trento - which has developed "Bellerofast" the first "biological trap" for viruses and bacteria that sanitizes and lasts several days on the surfaces, protecting them continuously from viral and bacterial load.

The Commission awarded the second prize to InSilicoTrials - from Trieste - the first cloud platform that allows healthcare companies to reduce the time and costs of their research and development processes by using very high scientific level computational models and simulations (so-called in silico trials).

The third prize went to Plasfer - from Perugia - which is producing blood platelets loaded with different kinds of drugs for the treatment of Glioblastoma (a brain cancer) and other types of disease. Compared to other ways of drug delivery, the platelets are able to specifically deliver the drug to the target, avoiding an off-target effect.

Finally, a special mention went to Artiness - based in Milan - which moves beyond medical imaging standards transforming patient-specific data into 3D accurate holograms, to provide the next generation platform to optimize surgical support through augmented reality.
