The Commission on Life Science - The Winners

 

 

The Commission on Life Science met on July 20, 2017 to decide the winning startup proposal for the sector.

 

The commission chose among ten finalists pre-selected by UniCredit Start Lab Team. The Commission was composed of senior executives from leading Italian companies such as:

 

 

  • Eugenio Aringhieri, CEO, Dompé

  • Rosario Bifulco, CEO, Mittel

  • Maurizio Colombo, Vice President, Sapio Group

  • Rocco Crimi, Founder, Laboratori Farmaceutici Krymi

  • Gaetano Lomonaco, General Manager, Novamont

  • Danilo Mazzara, Senior Manager, Accenture Strategy

  • Elena Zambon, President, Zambon

             

 

After some debate, winning Life Science startup proposal was NOVAICOS - a company that has developed a patented active ingredient. This unique compound is capable of inhibiting bone erosion, even in cases of osteoporosis and bone metastasis, offering a number of potentially useful properties such as modulability, reversibility and tolerability

 

 

The commission awarded second place to HYRIS - an innovative DNA analysis tool that replaces the traditional sensors used in real-time PCR equipment. The immersive, app- and cloud-based software offers a user experience that resembles the laboratory process in any context, while reducing the time of analysis by up to 100 times without the need for specially trained staff

 

 

Third place went to BACTORY - a solution that uses biosynthesized metallic nanoparticles (BioNPs) to inhibit the formation of bacterial biofilms and to eradicate previously formed biofilms.

 

 

Additionally, the commission decided to award a special mention to INNOVAMOL - proposes "WellKer", a set of transdermal products Made in Italy resulting from the Italian scientific research and exploiting an innovative natural and multifunctional biomaterial. Main applications include: wound healing, collagen restoration, anti-inflammatory products and transdermal products of bioactive ingredients
