The Commission on Life Science will meet on May, 9 to evaluate the best startups in the sector.

The startups selected to participate in UniCredit Start Lab 2023 will be offered several opportunities, including: 

  • participation in meetings with UniCredit Corporate clients in order to evaluate potential commercial/industrial/technological partnerships, both in ad hoc sectoral initiatives and in one-to-one meetings;
  • opportunity to get in touch with possible investors, including international ones, in dedicated initiatives;
  • access to the Startup Academy and other initiatives as part of the coaching and managerial training program organized by the UniCredit Start Lab team;
  • guidance from professional Mentors, consultants and entrepreneurs, who will help them develop their businesses by offering skills and providing access to networks;
  • possibility of being selected for a Corporate Partnership program with large companies, which provide support with their own mentors and facilities (laboratories and corporate spaces), promote actions ranging from the launch of a joint pilot project to the investment evaluation;
  • possibility of collaborations with UniCredit;
  • the assignment of a dedicated UniCredit relationship manager.

The winner will also receive a cash prize of €10,000.

APPROXIMA

Approxima is an early stage MedTech startup, spin-off from Politecnico di Milano. The mission of the company is to develop a minimally invasive tricuspid valve repair system to treat patients with tricuspid valve regurgitation. The system allows reshaping of the right ventricle directly counteracting the right heart dilation. The device is intended to be implanted in the heart of a patient via minimally invasive procedure guided by medical imaging under beating heart conditions.

ENGENOME

enGenome was founded to enhance healthcare with advanced genomics and its SaaS product eVai represents a breakthrough technology to identify disease causing variants from sequencing data. The software combines AI and bioinformatics to assess the pathogenicity of single and multiple genomic variants and drastically increases the diagnostic yield of genetic testing.

FAGOTERAPIA LAB

Fagoterapia LAB is the first biotech company in Italy with the mission of saving patients' lives from antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections by using viruses that exclusively destroy the bacteria causing the infection. Through its proprietary algorithm, Fagoterapia Lab is able to develop a customised drug from phages selected from its platform, revolutionising the field of infectious diseases.

IBD ITALIAN BIOMEDICAL DEVICES

IBD, an innovative SME with a strong vocation for the development of medical devices for the dehospitalization of patients, has developed MyDial, a home hemodialysis machine with a user-friendly graphic interface, telemedicine and treatment efficacy identical to that of hospitals. This allows at the same time an increase in the patient's quality of life and a considerable cost limitation.

IRIANT (by Iridea Pharmaceuticals)

Iridea is a pharmaceutical start-up with a core business in drug discovery and development. The main focus of the company is the identification of small-molecule therapeutics with anti-angiogenic and anti-inflammatory properties. IRIANT is the first preclinical candidate from their pipeline, able to tackle Diabetic Retinopathy by a non-invasive administration route.

LIFE

LIFE is a cloud-based solution using smart sensorized garments that record patients' physiological parameters and transmit them, in real-time or delayed, to a centralized cloud, enabling telemedicine scenarios such as cardiorespiratory telemonitoring or telediagnosis, or building custom solutions for collecting and analysing data for scientific research.

MEDICILIO

Medicilio is the first decentralized hospital in Italy. The company's goal is to bring high-quality diagnostic medicine directly to patients' homes, through a clear focus on technology.

PAGINE MEDICHE

Paginemediche offers advanced digital health and telemedicine services for health management. Through its dedicated app, it simplifies the patient and physician experience at all stages of the patient journey, facilitates access to clinical services for numerous diseases and conditions, and offers a 24/7 network of physicians and health facilities.

PAPERBOX

Paperbox Health is a startup founded to break down accessibility barriers for early cognitive issue identification and treatment. Their innovative solution includes an end-to-end pathway featuring early identification through the videogame DINO two years earlier than current methods. The treatment platform includes active monitoring for maximum efficacy in an accessible experience.

U-CARE

U-Care Medical is empowering clinical teams to provide data-driven and proactive higher quality care of clinical complications in Intensive Care Units, improving efficiency and saving lives and related costs. Its first product, the U-Care Renal Platform, is a clinical-AI analytics platform that delivers timely actionable clinical insights for the end-to-end management of patient's renal status, from prevention to treatment.
