Business Idea

Lithium lasers is an innovative start up with the aim of bringing to the market a breakthrough laser for increasing efficiency in ultra-precise material processing (micromachining). Nowadays 30% of machined high precision parts are discarded during the manufacturing process. This is because commercially available lasers cannot keep high machining speed and quality at the same time.

Lithium Lasers developed FemtoFLASH, a brand-new laser technology able to increase the machining speed by a factor of 10, while keeping high precision. FemtoFLASH will help companies reduce the number of discarded parts, increase efficiency of manufacturing processes and therefore decrease the production costs of high precision components. Many sectors such as automotive, watch industry, biomedical and aeronautics will benefit from this disruptive technology. Unlike commonly used lasers that emit single pulses at 1 MHz repetition rates, FemtoFLASH emits bursts of high frequency pulses. In this novel approach the pulse frequency is increased a thousandfold (1 GHz) ensuring higher machining speed.

FemtoFLASH targets both system integrators, which manufacture and sell micromachining workstations, and end users, i.e. companies manufacturing high precision components for third parties. The technology reached the TRL 8 and it's ready to be tested by several potential customers that have shown interest in this new laser technology, such as EVLaser (Italy), Han's Laser (China), Saes Getters (Italy), CB Ferrari (Italy), Manz (Germany) and Kirana Laser (Italy).
