G.E.C.O makes a remotely controlled, automatic device for the synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals. It enables the synthesis of peptide-based radiopharmaceuticals, for diagnostic and/or therapeutic use, within disposable collectors that are appropriately screened and connected via a hermetic seal. This overcomes the intrinsic practical difficulties of manual and semi-automatic preparation by automating the entire process and protecting the operator from exposure to radioactive materials. The control station and remote control feature a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) which manages the overall functioning of the apparatus; an interface for connecting the unit to a personal computer, through which the operator can interact - at a safe security distance - with the entire synthesis process; a range of devices for the storage and management of data concerning the synthesis of the specific radiopharmaceutical used depending on the individual patient treated; and a printer for producing a final report containing all the information relating to the synthesis in question. The radioactivity detector is a radioactivity meter designed and made specially for the synthesis equipment. Via software, it can calibrate the dose of the radiopharmaceutical for each individual patient to be treated.
