The Commission on Life Science 2021 - The Winners
The Commission on Life Science met on May 25, 2021 to decide the winning startup proposal for the sector.
The commission chose among ten finalists pre-selected by UniCredit Start Lab team. The Commission was composed of senior executives from leading Italian companies such as:
The winning startup of the first prize for the Life Science sector is PerFormS - based in Modena - which has developed the first alternative drug to cortisone for the long-term treatment of psoriasis, enhancing the anti-inflammatory activity of an endogenous molecule with no side effects.
The winning startup will receive a 10.000 € grant.
The Commission awarded the second prize to NIB Biotech - from Turin - the first rapid urine test for the screening of prostate cancer, capable of contemporary identifying the presence and aggressiveness of a possible case of cancer, helping doctor determine whether a prostate biopsy is necessary.
The third prize went to 1000Farmacie - from Naples - a digital healthcare platform that combines the best Italian pharmacies, with their respective warehouses, to allow users to choose from a wide range of products at the best price and receive them directly at home via the delivery service. The startup is characterized by a zero inventory model and by the ability to manage medical prescriptions through a last-mile delivery model.
Finally, a special mention went to Angiodroid - based in Bologna - which has developed the first and only automatic CO2 injector validated for use in peripheral angiography procedures. Automatic CO2 angiography (ACDA) is a safer, cheaper, more effective and less risky alternative than the use of contrast media containing iodine, a nephrotoxic agent.
